General Conference

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have a Conference twice a year - April and October! We call this General Conference. At General Conference our general leaders and Prophet and Apostles speak to us! This past weekend we had one of the greatest Conferences I can remember! They are always uplifting and inspiring, but for me, I loved it! I went away from this conference just wanting more and wanting to relisten to everything they taught! So, I decided to pick one talk a week to review and try to impliment into my everyoday life. Each week I will blog about that particular talk and my thoughts from it! This week I will tell you about Elder L. Tom Perry's talk. He told us about Henry David Thoreau's experience out on Walden Pond for two years. He told us that at the end of his experience there he realized we only need 4 things to survive. Food, Clothing, Shelter and Fuel. So, L. Tom Perry taught us the 4 basics of survival and then defined what that means to us as Latter-day Saints. Food - eat healthy, obey the Lord's counsel (the Word of Wisdom as found in Doctrine and Covenants 89) take care of our bodies through good nutrition and exercise. Clothing - wear modest clothing. Our clothing is a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. Modest to me is more than just covering our body - but a simple and yet beautiful appearance. As for shelter - our homes are shelters and should be from the sins and temptations of the world. Our homes should be a safe refuge. And fuel - he said, yes we could talk about the fuel and the energy crisis here in our time, but for today I will talk about Spiritual fuel. We need to get fuel and energy from the Lord. We need to read our scriptures and study out the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can be as the 5 Virgins who trimmed their lamps and had oil when the Bridegroom came.

I just really enjoyed his talk and know that I can make improvements in all 4 of these areas! I am thankful to the Lord for sending such humble servants and teachers at this time. I am thankful to have a testimony of the apostles and know that they are inspired and taught by the Lord. I know his counsel is of God!

I'm a Mormon! Yes I am!!

I love the primary song - "I'm a Mormon, yes I am!" It is so fun and invigorating to sing! I love being a Mormon, or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! I just feel really blessed to know and have a testimony of this great gospel! I love the Book of Mormon and all of it's teachings! I love the knowlege, peace and comfort I get when I read it! I love being a Mormon mommy! I know we are expected to do so much, but at the same time it is so nice to know what is truly important in life, to know where to turn for peace, advice and/or help and also just to truly have the blessing of revelation and the Gift of the Holy Ghost -- I couldn't do it without that!! What a crazy first post I am making! I am so excited my words are probably not making much sense. I am anxious to get this up and going though! We have been counseled to get out there on the internet and share our beliefs! Well, I am just so thrilled that I have this little piece of the world wide web to share my feelings and beliefs! I am here to just write my thoughts and experiences as they come -- hopefully I will keep this up regularly! For, now, it is getting late, but I really just had to start today - A blog of my intermost thoughts on religion and my personal convictions! What a wonderful blessing to be alive today -- to be able to shout to the roof tops - I am a Mormon, YES I am! I want to invite you to learn more and return often to this blog for further posts on my testimony and my experiences! Anytime you want to learn more go to lds.org - -the church's offical website! I am just a little piece of the pie but I do want my voice to be heard --- I can't speak for the church but I speak of myself!

I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is true!
Thanks for stopping in and reading this blog!
God bless!
